100-Word Stories: BackyardBurglars
It’s hot. Not too hot. Here on the back porch. Two apple trees positioned as goalposts provide a comfortable shade. A groundhog hides behind the wooden shed. Peeking out every once in awhile. Birds on telephone wires play as lookouts, I assume. Flies and bees buzz around my face.
It’s a burglary. The groundhog wants the apples. The birds keep an eye out while the bugs provide distraction. When I look away, the birds chirp. It’s very clever. Inspiring. The backyard creatures working together. But they can easily take the apples. I don’t care. Nice to see this operation though.
